Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit

Article 1
The Colli Orientali del Friuli denomination of controlled and guaranteed origin accompanied by the Picolit specification is reserved for wines that meet the conditions and requirements established by this production specification.
The Cialla sub-area is regulated by the attachment at the bottom of this specification. Except as expressly provided for in the aforementioned attachment, the rules provided for in this production specification must be applied in the sub-area.

Article 2
The Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit denomination of controlled and guaranteed origin is reserved for wine obtained exclusively from grapes of the «Picolit» variety coming from vines having, within the company, the following ampelographic composition: Picolit for at least 85%.
The grapes of white berried vines suitable for cultivation in the autonomous region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia can also contribute to the production of this wine in an amount not exceeding 15% with the exception of the aromatic Traminer grape.

Article 3
The grapes referred to in art. 2 must be produced in the area indicated below: starting from the locality Madonna, west of Tarcento, the delimitation follows the road that from this locality leads to the railway station of Tarcento itself and then follows the railway line southwards until the intersection with the provincial Tricesimo - Nimis, from here along this road, through Qualso and Qualso Nuovo, up to the bridge of Nimis on the Tower. It then runs south along the course of this stream to the Savorgnano bridge, bends eastwards along the road that leads to Savorgnano until it intersects and follows the road for M. Bognini and C. Maurino; from here it continues along the existing high voltage power line, up to the transformation cabin of Rubignacco (between the orphan and C. Corgnolo institute). From the transformer substation, follow the road to Casali Gallo, the Macello Comunale, Borgo Viola (south of Cividale) and then turn east towards Borgo Corfu to descend along the SS. 356, up to the Spessa - lpplis crossroads, passing through Gagliano; from this point to the west along the paved road that delimits the north side of the hilly area proper, up to the junction of Azzano to bend towards Leproso and continue for the bridge over the Natisone river towards Orsaria and then along the provincial road up to Vicinale (Casa delle zitelle included ) to continue along the provincial road to its junction with the SS. 56. The demarcation line follows state road no. 56, heading south-east, up to the crossroads for Manzano and for the road that crosses Manzano it reaches the paved Case - Dolegnano near C. Romano. It continues east along the paved road above to reach the provincial border Udine - Gorizia after passing through Dolegnano, Piazzale Quattro Venti, S. Andrat. It follows the state border northwards up to the Goritnich stream. It goes up said rio up to the interpoderale road Prepotischis - Fragielis; it then passes over the villages of Fragielis and Stregna and, once reached San Pietro di Chiazzacco, continues towards C. Chiaro, Cialla, up to Mezzomonte on the road to Castelmonte, to then continue along the border of the municipality of Cividale and continue north along the border of Torreano up to the height of Mount Mladesena. From here along a straight line that connects Mount Mladesena (m 711) to Mount Forcis (m 559) to Mount Dolina (m 441) to Mount Quarde (m 429) to Mount Poiana (m 369) to Colle San south along the road which crosses Borgo Foranesi and, when it arrives near Borgo Polla, turns westwards to reach the state road n. 356 which follows up to Madonna, west of Tarcento.
All the vineyards of the «Picolit» variety, duly registered in the «Colli Orientali del Friuli» appellation of controlled origin prior to the approval of this specification, are registered by right in the «Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit» controlled and guaranteed denomination of origin ».

Article 4
The vineyards destined for the production of the Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit controlled and guaranteed designation of origin must respond, due to the environmental conditions of cultivation, to the traditional ones of the production area and in any case they must be suitable for giving grapes and wines the specific quality characteristics.
Therefore, only vineyards with variable percentages of coarse elements are to be considered suitable. The bottom of the valley, damp and not sufficiently sunny, is excluded.
The sixth planting, the forms of training and the pruning systems must be those generally used, however, suitable for not changing the characteristics of the grapes and wine.
New plants or replantings built after the entry into force of this specification must include at least 3500 vines per hectare.
Any practice of forcing is forbidden, however, in particularly dry years and emergency irrigation is allowed.
The maximum production of grapes allowed is 4 tons per hectare of vineyards in specialized cultivation.
The yield must be brought back to these limits, even in exceptionally favorable years, through careful selection of the grapes, provided that the production does not exceed the limit by 20%, in which case all production loses the right to the Colli controlled and guaranteed designation of origin. Article 5
The vinification and bottling operations must be carried out within the production area referred to in art. 3.
However, taking into account the existing situations, it is allowed that these operations are carried out in the entire territory of the province of Udine, as well as in the entire territory of the municipalities that include the production area of ​​the Collio controlled designation of origin.
At the harvest, the grapes destined for winemaking must ensure, to the Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit denomination of controlled and guaranteed origin, a minimum natural alcoholic strength by volume of 13% vol.
The grapes can be subjected to drying on the plant and / or on trellises and / or in open boxes or in rooms also equipped with systems for temperature and / or humidity control and / or forced ventilation.
In winemaking only local, fair and constant winemaking practices are allowed, capable of giving the wines their peculiar characteristics. No enrichment practice is allowed.
The maximum yield of grapes in wine must not exceed 55% equal to a maximum yield of 22 hectoliters per hectare.
If the yield of grapes in wine exceeds this limit, the right to the Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit denomination of origin is guaranteed and guaranteed for the whole product.
Vinification and / or aging in wooden barrels is allowed.

Article 6
Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit wines with denomination of controlled and guaranteed origin when released for consumption must meet the following characteristics:
- color: more or less intense golden yellow;
- smell: intense, sometimes of passito wine, fine, pleasant, with possible slight hints of wood;
- flavor: sweet or sweet, warm, harmonious, with possible hints of wood;
- minimum total alcoholic strength by volume: 15% vol;
- minimum total acidity: 4.0 g / l;
- minimum non-reducing extract: 24 g / l.

Article 7
The Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit denomination of controlled and guaranteed origin wine can be marketed after the 1st of September of the year following that of grape production.

Article 8
Any other additional qualification not foreseen by the production specification is forbidden on the label, including the adjectives "reserve", "superior", "extra", "fine", "chosen", "selected", "classic", and the like.
The vintage of the grape production is mandatory.
The use of indications that refer to names, company names, private brands, and indications of farms and vineyards is allowed provided they have no laudative meaning and are not such as to mislead the consumer.
The Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit denomination of controlled and guaranteed origin wine must be released for consumption only in traditional bottles with a capacity of no more than 5 liters.
The bottles must be corked with a cork.
The packaging and dressing of bottles with fancy features that are not appropriate for the prestige of the wine are prohibited.

«CIALLA» SUB-AREA

Article 1
The denomination of controlled and guaranteed origin Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit - Cialla sub-area is reserved for wine that meets the conditions and requirements established by this annex to the production specification.

Article 2
The denomination of controlled and guaranteed origin Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit, followed by the Cialla specification and reserved for wine made exclusively from grapes from vineyards having the following ampelographic composition within the company: Picolit 100%.

Article 3
The grapes for the production of the Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit denomination of controlled and guaranteed origin - sub-area Cialla must be produced in the area indicated below: starting from the border of the municipality of Prepotto, to the north, the area at an altitude of 490 m, the line returns, passing for altitude 496, crossing the S. Pietro di Chiazzacco - Castelmonte road up to altitude 612; at this point the line deviates to the east, up to an altitude of 294, passing over Casali Magnana and the Houses under S. Pietro; following the altitude of 200 almost constantly, the line connects to the municipal border, between the municipal roads Casali Barbianis - Cialla and Casali Barbianis - Cladrecis; from here on, the delimitation line is identified with that of the municipality of Prepotto.

Article 4
The maximum production of grapes allowed to obtain the wine with controlled and guaranteed denomination of origin Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit sub-area Cialla and 4 tons per hectare.
This yield must determine a maximum quantity of wine per hectare suitable for the release for consumption of hectoliters 22.
The new plants and replantings must include at least 3500 vines per hectare.

Article 5
The vinification and bottling operations must be carried out within the production area referred to in art. 3. Winemaking and bottling in the municipality of Prepotto is also allowed only for grapes producers having vineyards within the specified sub-area Cialla.
The grapes destined for winemaking must ensure the Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit - sub-area Cialla wine with a controlled and guaranteed designation of origin with a minimum natural alcoholic strength by volume of 14% vol.
In the vinification and aging of Picolit wine, the use of small wooden barrels is allowed.

Article 6
The Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit denomination of controlled and guaranteed origin wine - Cialla sub-area, upon release for consumption, must meet the following characteristics:
- color: more or less intense golden yellow;
- smell: delicately perfumed, characteristic, sometimes of passito wine;
- flavor: sweet or sweet, warm, harmonious, delicate, with possible hints of wood;
- minimum total alcoholic strength by volume: 16% vol;
- minimum total acidity: 4.0 g / l;
- minimum non-reducing extract: 24 g / l.
The Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit denomination of controlled and guaranteed origin wine - Cialla subzone, can use the term «Riserva» as an additional specification when it is subjected to an aging period of not less than four years calculated from the first of November of the year of production. of the grapes.

Article 7
The indication of the sub-zone on the label must be reported in a position immediately below the denomination and in characters not superior, in size and width, to those used to indicate the denomination itself.
The Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit denomination of controlled and guaranteed origin - sub-area Cialla, must be marketed no earlier than the first of September of the second year following the harvest.
The Colli Orientali del Friuli Picolit denomination of controlled and guaranteed origin wine - sub-area Cialla, must be released for consumption only in glass bottles, with a capacity of not more than 5 liters, closed with a cork.
